Christmas Greetings for Quick Quotes

Merry Christmas Eve to one and all!  Neva here to share some Christmas cheer and a few cards I enjoyed creating to give to family and friends for this holiday season.  All of the cards feature Holly Jolly Holiday collection.  My first card is an interactive pop-up card inspired by one of my favorite Three Dimensional artists, Karen Burniston.

I used several different papers to create my version of the card.  Karen has a great how-to video that will help assemble the card.  I used just the die set that creates the pop-up tree, and trimmed the accent papers with my trimmer.  All the dark papers are inked with Evergreen Powder Puff Chalking Ink and the light papers with Kokomo Powder Puff Chalking Ink.  The key dimensions are as follows:

  • The base of the card uses 103 trimmed to 4 1/4 x 11".  It is scored at 4 3/4", 9 3/4", and 10 1/2".
  • The front panel is 100 trimmed to 4" x 4 1/2".  (I had originally chosen a different paper, but didn't like the lack of contrast, so revised my decision.)
  • The inside top and bottoms panels are 104 trimmed to 4" x 4" and 1 3/4" x 4".
  • The pop-up mechanism panel is originally 4 1/4" x 4 1/2", with the bottom 3/4" trimmed and re-assembled with the removable tape to create the center fold.

All of the tree parts were die cut from various papers in the collection.
  • The frames are one side of 105, and the center floating trees are the reverse side.
  • The slotted center tree is 103.
  • The decorations are die cut from 102.
  • The tree topping star is die cut from 100.
For accents I used the following:
  • A saying from Holly Jolly Holidays 600 Quotes and Phrases is trimmed to the inside frame to fit into the card.
  • A small piece of green gingham ribbon serves the small tab to open the top opening card.
  • I do suggest the magnets linked under Karen's video as the ones I found locally did not hold the card together through the paper layers.
I made a few more cards using Holly Jolly Holiday 500 and 600 Quotes and Phrases along with the scraps and bits left on my craft table from my Christmas related layouts featured earlier in the month.  All of the cards can be created from the Club Q Altered Kit with a few additions from your stash.

  • I had many strips of paper in widths between 3/8" and 1/2".  I laid the strips diagonally across the card base. and trimmed the excess from around the edges.
  • The entire card front is inked in Evergreen Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • A saying from 600 is matted with 103 and layered over the top.

  •  A greeting from 500 is trimmed and inked.
  • Small strips of 100 are placed behind the saying.
  • The panel is matted with 104.
  • Brads are placed in each of the four corners to anchor the card together before adhering to a card base.

  • A greeting from 500 is trimmed and inked.
  • It is matted with 104.
  • Strips left-over from the "Lefse" layout is placed behind the saying and adhered to the card base.
  • A small raffia bow is adhered to the top.

  • I really liked the rustic look of this saying so a small jute bow and jute cord decorate the front of the greeting from 500.
  • Burlap ribbon is placed behind the greeting.
  • The panel is backed with 101 and adhered to a card base.

  • The Noel greeting is trimmed and inked.
  • A small angel is die cut from vellum and cream card stock and adhered to the front of the card.
  • The panel is backed with 101 and adhered to the card base.
  • Small gems from the December Club Q kit are adhered randomly to the card front.

Quick Quotes Club Q Christmas Version

Happy Holidays friends of Quick Quotes from Neva!  Have you seen the beautiful Club Q layouts this month?  I enjoyed using both kits to create layouts to commemorate last year's Christmas memories.  My first layout used one kit as designed with a few tweaks.

The design of the background paper is hard to cover up because it is so pretty!  I had very few photos of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for 2017 so this layout was perfect.  My photos were landscape rather than portrait orientation thus a few changes were made to accommodate the direction of my photos.

  • The left side uses the laser cut mat from the design for the right side trimmed to 4 1/2" x 6 1/2".  My photo was on the darkish side so the B-side white background created a more balanced color scheme.  The edges are inked in Kokomo Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • The green mat is from the original right side as well and is trimmed to 4 3/4" x 6 3/4".
  • All the green mats are inked in Evergreen Powder Puff Chalking Ink for the entire layout.
  • The frames, pennant, and red mats are inked in Kokomo Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • The journaling is done Holly Jolly Holidays 100 before being mounted behind the frame and matted with the coordinating laser cut.

  • The larger mats for the two landscape photos are trimmed from the papers in the small altered kit.
  • The red mat is 6 1/2" x 8 1/4.  The green mat is 6 3/4" x 8 1/2".
  • The sentiment is trimmed from Holly Jolly Holidays 600 Phrases and Sayings then inked in Evergreen Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • I borrowed the tree from the small altered kit as well, as it balanced the embellishments on the ride side of the photo mat.
Next up is another layout that documents my love of decorating for the Christmas holidays.  I have a few Nativities to display as well as several Christmas Trees from large to small!  I hope you enjoy the small tour through my Christmas Decor!

This layout is significantly different from the design, however the background paper is a great foundation for both layouts.  The papers supplied in the kit were easily altered to fit the design for my layout.

  • All of the dark red mats and accents came from the sheet of laser cut shapes and are inked in Kokomo Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • The borders on the looped accents are also from this sheet trimmed to 3/8" x 11 3/8".
  • Shhhh, a little secret here, the red mat is actually two of the punched mats butted up together to create on mat behind the Nativities.  You can't even tell can you?
  • To go behind the red mat, Holly Jolly Holidays 103 is trimmed to 5" x 12" for the left side.
  • The focal photo is framed with both sides of 101 trimmed to 4 1/2" x 6 1/2", and 4 3/4" x 6 3/4".
  • All green accents are inked in Evergreen Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • All the other accents are inked in Kokomo Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • On my second try I die cut the title from 101.  My first choice didn't show up as well as this version!
  • I wanted a few more snowflakes to add as embellishments, so I die cut them from the scraps from the laser cut snowflakes and border edges.
  •
  •  The mats for the photos of my collections are trimmed from 101 and 5 3/4" x 8 and 6 1/4" x 8 1/2".
  • The red mat is the laser cut mat.
  • To go behind the red mat, Holly Jolly Holidays 103 is trimmed to 4" x 12" for the right side
  • The journaling is printed on Holly Jolly Holidays 100 and is inked in Kokomo Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • The numbers are punched from 1Holly Jolly Holidays 100 as well.

Quick Quotes featuring Holly Jolly Holidays

It is December, Quick Quote friends and time to share a holiday themed layout featuring a tasty Norwegian treat, Lefsa.  Neva here to document our family tradition of making lefsa.

Several papers from the Holly Jolly collection worked fantastically to showcase our baking adventures.
  • The background is side B of Holly Jolly 103.
  • The side dots are side A of Holly Jolly 103.  The left side is trimmed to 3" and the right side is trimmed to 1 1/2".
  • Holly Jolly 105 is used along the side and is trimmed to 3/4".  All the vertical sections are inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Barn Board.
  • The side sections are adhered together then adhered to the layout.
  • The vertical paper is Holly Jolly 101.  Four sections are trimmed to 1 3/4" and 4 sections are trimmed to 1".
  • The bottom uses the stripes over the green pattern, then it is reversed for the top sections.  All edges are inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Evergreen before adhering together.
  • The title is die cut from Holly Jolly 105.
  • Since this was a longish story to journal, I printed it up on a section of Holly Jolly 100 then inked the edges in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Evergreen.

  • I selected the Good Cheer section from Holly Jolly 500 and trimmed it down to just the banner.
  • The edges are inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Barn Board.
  • Two green brads are used to accent the corners before attaching to the layout with dimensional foam adhesive.
  • The "HOME" was trimmed down to just the sweet little house.
  • The edges are inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Evergreen.
  • The home is adhered with dimensional foam adhesive.
  • The close-ups show the slightly distressed design of the papers, which is just lovely!
I think the festive colors of the Holly Jolly collection is great for all of your fun holiday themed layouts this time of year.  The card fronts from 500 can also be used in different ways as shown above.  Have a little fun and create a layout about a family tradition too!

Retro Rubber Holidays Challenge

December already, can you believe it?  This is the last challenge of the 2018 for Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.  We are also announcing our winners from a fun blog hop with prizes from our Celebration Challenge 100 last go around.  The winner of my retro goody is Denise Bryant!  Congrats!  As soon as we connect some crafty goodness will be on your way!  Now for the challenge:

My card is inspired by the snow, the hat on the snowman, and the wood accents.  It's not exactly a Christmas card, but we have a niece with a December birthday, so still a holiday!

My images are from the Winter Warmers set that came with a magazine from late 2017.  I love the little stitched bear and his cute sweater and hat.  All the images were stamped in Delicata Shimmer Black and heat embossed with Iridescent Embossing Powder.  I did a little water coloring with Fireworks! sprays in Angel Pink London Fog, Lady Bug, and Cottage Ivy.  There haven't been any sun shiny days since I have made the card, so you can't see any of the pretty shimmer!  The bear and his accents were all fussy cut before adhering them together with dimensional foam adhesive.  The sentiment has a few splatters of Fireworks! in Lady Bug and Cottage Ivy, and the edge is inked with Delicata Ruby Red.  The background is pressure embossed with Darice's Snowflake background then edged with Delicata Emerald Green.  I decided the card needed a bit more to add in the wood accents so I added Entwined Circles die cuts by Elizabeth Craft Design.  A few gems finished off the card.  I think he is pretty sweet!

Do come play along with us for our last challenge of the year.  Don't worry, we will be back in January, but everyone needs a break around the holidays!  We have a few simple rules at Retro Rubber.  You must use at least one stamp that is older than a year and let us know how old it is, and to enter up to ten challenges including ours.  Thanks and enjoy the holiday season!

Christmas for Stick It Down Double Page Team

It is almost hard to believe that it is already December and time for one last sketch for the year at Stick It Down!  This one is great for a Christmas layout with the bow in the design, and I took full advantage!

Here is my version using bells instead of holly. Once I decided how to make the bow the layout went together very quickly.

Like many scrapbookers I have a huge stash that goes back years . . . this is collection is from My Minds Eye called "I believe" from 2010.  I used Wreaths and the b side of Candy Cane Stripes.  My first bow idea didn't match the size I wanted, so I tried layering several bows from the Bow-tied Sizzlets Decorative Strip for Tim Holtz.  Using two each of the two larger bows I got the look I wanted to achieve.  Then I used the smaller bows to attach the bells.  The bells are stamped from the Altenew Bells and Bows stamp and die set.  Memento Pistachio, Olive Grove, and Northern Pine inks were colors that matched perfectly.  The title is Spellbinders Etched Alphabet backed by vellum that was inked with Brilliance Pearlescent Poppy.

Using the sketch exactly as it was designed makes for a wonderful Christmas layout.  Thanks so much for stopping by and come join the fun at Stick It Down with your own layout inspired by this sketch!

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop with Quick Quotes

It is so much fun to be a part of blog hop, and here we are with another Quick Quotes Coffee Lovers Blog hop in kahoots with others!

Neva here to show case the awesome Autumn Brilliance paper collection.  I recently completed a layout with this collection and used the scraps to create this fun flip card.  Each section is die cut out of the coordinating patterns and inked with Mocha Mama Powder Puff Chalking Ink.  The images are a VERY old Stamping Up set dated 1999 that I found in a thrift store!  I believe the set is named "What's Brewin'?"  The images are stamped in Rusty Nail Powder Puff Chalking Ink.

Here is the inside view.  The hemp cord is adhered to the patterned cardstock before it is adhered to the base card.  What a quick cut card!

Happy Thanksgiving card for Quick Quotes

Hello friends of Quick Quotes, Neva here to share a three-dimensional Thanksgiving card.  I used the lovely Autumn Brilliance collection to create this festive fall card.

This card folds flat for mailing, and stands up and holds it shape by clever tabs and slits in the design of the card.

  • I started with Autumn Brilliance 102 and 105 for the base sections of the card.  Using a template I traced and cut out the sections.
  • The sections are inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Milk Chocolate.  (Which, by the way, will hide the small imperfections of hand cutting a card panel, yeah!)
  • Autumn Brilliance 100 is used to create the front panels on each section of the card.  I used parts of the design that would highlight the leaves and show the fun zig zag pattern.
  • The edges are inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Kokomo.
  • Using a stamp positioner, the sentiments are stamped on the sections before assembly.  This allowed me to stamp multiple layers of ink to create nice dark impressions without smudging.

  • Three sets of the leaves are die cut from 100 and 102.
  • Using ink daubers each type of leaf was inked in a variety of Powder Puff Chalking Ink Colors.  I used Barn Board, Desert Sun, Banana Bliss, Biscotti, Rusty Nail, Milk Chocolate, and Kokomo to create fall colored foliage.
  • The card is assembled using strong adhesive and glue dots to hold the leaves in place.  The leaves will stand out a bit from the card when it is in the displayed "bendi" position.
This card was so much fun to assemble from the wonderful Autumn Brilliance collection.  I think it is a fabulous autumn card to celebrate Thanksgiving!

Ok . . .here we go:

Help us celebrate 100 challenges!!

I had a blast creating my card, one that used the diagonal "glitter or sparkle, confetti, and metallics".  I started with a very old confetti image from 1997 by Distinctive Impressions.  I stamped using the four cube set of Delicata that included Golden Glitz, Silvery Shimmer, Bronze Burst, and Celestial Copper.  To add a bit more sparkle I used iridescent clear embossing powder to heat emboss the images.  The edges are inked in Delicata Black Shimmer to add a bit of definition and tie the elements together.  The tag is Sheet Metal by Imagine, and the sentiment is stamped in StazOn Jet Black.  The StazOn is is also used to edge around the perimeter of the tag.  I found a really neat bit of mesh ribbon to attach the tag to the front of the card.  After searching through my stash I found a sheet of silver glitter card stock to back the confetti stamped panel.  The photo shows a tiny bit of the fun shimmer of this celebratory card.

Do play along with us at Retro Rubber, and make sure to comment by November 30th to win a great little prize from each of our blogs.  I would also appreciate new followers either via email or by the button on the left.  Remember to enter the challenge with a stamp that is at least one year or older and tell us how old it might be and to enter up to ten challenges including ours!  Have some fun hopping around all the design teams blogs.  Next up is:

In my Prayers

The father of a dear friend of mine passed away last week.  He lived a wonderful 104 years!  It is time to support my friend through the journey of grief, and a sympathy card is just the beginning!

With a little inspiration from Sketch Saturday I created her card last night.  I was glad to have the Encouraging Words stamp set from Stampendous with is simple and elegant sentiments and leaves designs in my stash.  I stamped the leaf stems and the sentiment in memento Luxe Rich Cocoa and heat embossed the images with clear embossing powder.  A second set of leaves were stamped then water colored with VersaFine Habanero and Ink Potion No. 9.  The leaves are then fussy cut.  The Stitched Ovals die from Elizabeth Craft Designs was used to die cut the oval shape.  The leaves are adhered with glue dots and dimensional foam adhesive to add a bit of dimension.  A very old sheet of Double Mates in coffee brown is used to create the panel and the backing.  The light side is trimmed and stamped with additional sentiments in VersaFine Habanero.  The dark side is pressure embossed with Basket Weave background by Darice.  A section of ribbon from my stash completes the sketch.

The interior of the card features another sentiment and a few more leaves from the set.  I am very pleased with the final card, it is elegant and fall like.

I would like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Giving Thanks for Quick Quotes

Blessings to all of you who follow us here on the Quick Quotes blog.  Neva here to share with you a layout using the beautiful new papers of Autumn Brilliance and the BRAND NEW digital downloads now available at Quick Quotes.  The colors are simply gorgeous for your fall and Thanksgiving layouts, even my husband agreed when he proofed my pages.

  • The gray background is the reverse side of Autumn Brilliance 102.  This is a great base color for the many hues found in the photos.
  • The off-set center is the patterned side of 102.  It is trimmed and then inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail.
  • Autumn Brilliance 105 is trimmed to 2 1/2" x 12" and 1" x 12" and inked Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail.
  • Two sections each of Autumn Brilliance 101 are trimmed to 1/2" x 12" and 3/4" x 12".  The lighter narrow section is inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail.  The red side is inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Cool Gray.
  • The corners of the photos are rounded then they are inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Cool Gray.
  • The journaling block is printed on cream cardstock and is inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail.
  • You many notice that the two 4" x 6" photos span the divide between the left and right sides of the layout.  I wanted to have a sequence to the photos that matched the day and meal, fortunately both photos could be trimmed without going through an important part of the photo like someone's face!
  • A little selective trimming behind the mat on the right side of the layout provided the gray portion of 102 to die cut letters for the title.  I didn't want to cut into another sheet of this really pretty paper!
  • The red side of 101 is used to die cut the shadow for the title.
  • One design principle is to consider in creating layouts is the the Gallon, Quart, and Ounce analogy.  In this layout the gallon is grey, the quart is the sandy yellow and the ounce is the red.
  • I was also thinking about the principle of using colors in a visual triangle for placement of the "ounce" of red in the shadow of the title and the shadow in the vertical strips of cardstock.  Thankfully the colors of Quick Quote collections give you ample options within one line to use these design ideas.

Part of the exciting news of new products is the digital collections now available at Quick Quotes to use in digital scrapbooking OR to print.
  • I selected three png files from the Heritage digital collection and imported them into a word document.  It was as simple as drag and drop!  Heritage_12.png, Heritage_14.png, and Heritage_53.png
  • The png files are resized to 1.33" x 2" as shown.
  • I printed two of each as I was creating a duplicate layouts for my sons.
  • The document was printed on cream cardstock.
  • To barely round the corners I used a very old decorative corner scissor to nip the corners.
  • Each sentiment is inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail.
  • Wooden shapes were inked by placing them directly on the ink pad.  Fine tip tweezers come in handy to handle the shapes and to keep from getting inky fingers.
  • The hearts were inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail.
  • The arrows were inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Cool Gray.
  • Let the shapes dry for an ample amount of time to avoid finger prints and smudges on your papers.
  • The wood shapes are adhered with glue dots.
  • The sentient is adhered to obscure some bright distracting lights in the photo.

  •  Both the sentiment and shapes anchor the design together.
  • The three sentiments are also in a visual triangle to guide your eye through the layout.

Foundry Birthday for Retro Rubber

It is time for a new challenge over at Retro Rubber, and this one is everyone's favorite, Anything Goes!

I needed to make a birthday card for my husband a few weeks back and went with a grunge theme courtesy of Tim Holtz products.

To start I pressure embossed a piece of metallic copper cardstock with the Foundry 3-D Texture Fade by Tim Holtz and Sizzix.  I used a Versa Mark Ink and Verdigris embossing powder both by Tsukineko to grunge it up a bit.  Verdigris is perfect on a copper color is that is the natural patina copper gets when it is oxidized.  (A little Chemistry tidbit here!)  The sentiment is by Hero Arts from 2013 "It's Your Day".  The sentiment is stamped on black cardstock and heat embossed with the Verdigris EP.  The edges are inked with Celestial Copper Delicata ink.  A Remnant Rubs Elements is used to decorate a Fragment.  It is attached with a bit of gold cord looped through the hole and knotted.  The glue dot is behind the knot.  The gears are added around the sentiment which is mounted with dimensional foam adhesive.  I went to mount the card on a Kraft card base and it looked a little unfinished.  So using Heartfelt Creations Cogs and Gear from 2014 I stamped around the perimeter with Memento Tuxedo Black.  DH really liked his card, he doesn't like super fussy ones anyway!  I am please that it came out so "grungy",  not a style I typically dabble in!

Please do come and play along with us at Retro Rubber!  We would love to see what you create for the Anything Goes Challenge.  We have a few rules, first you must use at least one stamp that is older than a year and tell us it's approximate age, and second please enter up to ten challenges including ours.  Easy Peasy!

Ford Tough for Stick It Down Double Page

We have a great double page sketch for the month of November at Stick It Down, it can be very seasonal like the sketch or altered to fit your theme like I did!

Here is my version that captures an exhilarating event for my son from last summer's trip to EAA Airventure in Oshkosh Wisconsin.

I wanted to represent the ropes for the embellishments behind the photos, and the easiest way to do that was to stamp a design using Technique Tuesday's Borderline Industry stamps and Delicata Mediterranean Blue ink by Tsukineko.  Since I was going with a bit more of a grunge look I dug out some really old pens that Zig made about 20 years ago called Dotta Riffic, you can make different size dots depending on how hard you push on the flexible rubber tip.  The photos seemed to blend into the background cardstock, so I backed them with white cardstock and barely inked the edges of the cardstock.  The finishing touch was the Recollections stickers in masculine font that were an industrial silver finish.  A fairly clean and simple version of this easy to use sketch.

FYI, the Ford reference is because Ford Motor Company is a huge sponsor of EAA AirVenture and has a ginormous display and activity area right off the main drag at the show.  This is the first year that my son tried the big ropes course.  I am glad I have a layout for his scrapbook of this endeavor!

More Travel Fun with Quick Quotes

Hello to all our friends in blogland, Neva here to share a layout featuring a few Powder Puff Chalking Inks and Far and Away papers and quotes.  I have demolished a major part of this collection but still had a few sheets that featured the postmarks that I thought would be great for a layout from our visit to Berlin.

This layout came together rather quickly by using a clean design and a few embellishments from the Far and Away collection.
  • Far and Away 105 is trimmed to get the orange postmark strip.  It is 1 1/8" x 8 1/2" on the left side and 1 1/8" x 12 on the right side of the layout.  Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Barn Board inks the edges.
  • Far and Away 105 is trimmed to 6" x 8 1/2" and 6" x 12".  Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Blue Moon inks the edges.
  • Far and Away 104 is trimmed to 2" x 8 1/2" and 2" x 12".   Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Barn Board inks the edges.
  • A little secret here, originally I had the papers extend across the entire double page layout, but decided I wanted to add the inked globe, so I trimmed the papers back a few inches.
  • Far and Away 100 is trimmed to 4 1/2" x 11".  Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Barn Board inks the edges.
  • Fiber is adhered to the back of the bottom section before it is adhered to the cardstock base.
  • The title is die cut and inked with Blue Moon Powder Puff Chalking Ink.  I debated between using the German name or the English name . . . and went with the version that we can understand!
  • To add the globe, I first die cut a circle in a sheet of paper and placed as a reverse mask around the area I wanted to ink.  The opening is slightly larger than the globe stencil.
  • Using Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Blue Moon I and an Ink Blusher I gently blended the ink onto the white cardstock base through the stencil.
  • A saying from Far and Away 500 is trimmed and inked with Blue Moon Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • I still had a few small scraps of Far and Away 101, so it is used to back embellishments and inked with Barn Board Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  • The same is done with the tourist card I collected while in Berlin, and with the journaling block.

  •  The pennants are trimmed from Far and Away 600 and inked with Barn Board Powder Puff Chalking Ink.
  •  The pennants are adhered directly below the fiber.
  • Wet adhesive secures the fiber in place so it appears that the pennants are attached.

Harvest Party

I had a little more time to craft last week and finished up this fun layout.  I had a few sheets left of a collection and wanted to use it up on a double page sketch from Let's Scrap.

I had two sheets left of the Night Light collection by My Minds Eye plus a few scraps to make the tags.  Sugar Dots and Candy Time are featured here and are a great color complement to my photos.  I used Dotted Corn and orange cardstock create the tags with my tried and true Coluzzle tag template.  The tags are topped with We R Memory Keepers grommets and fibers from my stash.  My favorite border punch for all things Halloween is the Martha Stewart Drippy Goo, here black cardstock is makes a great addition.  I had a few of the pumpkins left from another layout that are also by Martha Stewart, they looked much better with a fussy cut black cardstock backing.  Frankie Classic by Quickutz die cuts the title.  I am very pleased with the finished layout.
